Our Story
Preemie Power of Wisconsin (PPOW) was founded in January 2016 by three Wisconsin boys' mothers whose lives were affected by prematurity. All of our little superheroes were born TWELVE to FOURTEEN weeks early weighing between 1.5 pounds and 2.5 pounds. They spent an average of 78 days in the NICU...and fortunately, they all survived.
Each of our families were in the same NICU...at different times...and our preemies required very different courses of care. Though our individual experiences and the needs of each of our preemies were different, what we discovered through our shared NICU experiences is that there are plenty of resources geared toward preventing a premature birth. There are very few geared toward helping new preemie families navigate the NICU when you have a premature baby despite having all of the resources to prevent it. We wanted our experiences and what we learned as NICU families to benefit other Wisconsin families who suddenly find themselves in unfamiliar territory.
Our Mission
Preemie Power of Wisconsin's (PPOW's) mission is to enhance the lives of babies, children and families affected by prematurity and to prevent premature birth by supporting healthy pregnancy education, NICU support and medical care enhancements, prematurity related rehabilitation, and programs whose purpose it is to enhance the quality of lives of individuals whose premature birth resulted in disabilities in the state of Wisconsin.
